Our animal science programmes at Shuttleworth College enable you to develop the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue a successful career working with animals. The animal centre provides high quality learning opportunities in a practical environment. Animal Centre
You will need to be really dedicated, as animals will require your specialist care and attention all year round. The Animal Centre at Shuttleworth will help you build up your confidence, as you will take part in all kinds of practical activities with a wide range of species.

The centre houses a wide range of species including birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, mammals and exotic animals. The centre provides you with an innovative learning environment whilst maintaining the highest standards of animal husbandry and welfare enabling you to gain excellent practical experience.

New developments include our purpose built humidity room and a tropical biospheres which provide specialist accommodation for our tropical rainforest species. These up-to-date facilities and environments ensure that you are able to gain specialist knowledge of modern husbandry techniques.

Award-winning facilities
The Animal Centre has scooped prestigious Blue Cross awards in three categories, after competing nationally against 37 colleges from across the country. The Centre won; best overall animal unit for welfare; best bird welfare management and best amphibian and reptile management.

Student destinations

In 2016 82% of students went on to degree-level study, at colleges and universities such as Bangor University, Kingston University and Nottingham Trent University, or moved straight into paid employment at companies including Pets at Home and Woburn Safari Park.
